A Bit of Background

Coordinating a community response to abuse, neglect and self-neglect of adults with diverse sexual orientations and gender identities on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands

We respond at the community level through community development, education, prevention and advocacy.  We do not provide services to individuals.

We live and work with gratitude on unceded Coast Salish, Nuu-chah-nulth and Kwakwaka'wakw Territories.

We are a member of the BC Association of Community Response Networks

Sexual diversity includes people with a sexual attraction to the same sex, both sexes, other sexes, or people without a sexual attraction. Common Canadian terms include: lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, two-spririt, asexual among others.

Gender diversity includes people whose gender identity or gender expression differs from what is culturally or typically associated with the gender or sex they were assigned at birth, and people whose identity does not conform to binary (male or female) roles. Common Canadian terms include: transgender, non-binary, genderqueer, queer, two-spririt, agender among others.

Terms for sexual and gender minorities vary by culture and language.

While there have been very significant improvements in Canada, discrimination and efforts to enforce invisibility of LGBTQ2S+ people and communities is ongoing.

The result is that LGBTQ2S+ people experience higher than average levels of abuse, neglect and self-neglect.

Everyone is worthy of recognition and love and deserving of respect.
